Children & Teen Counseling

Sometimes life is challenging and children can struggle with how to move forward or deal with problems.

Alexander Jewish Family Service Children’s Mental Health Program provides counseling to children, adolescents and their families. Therapy helps children and teens learn and identify solutions to handle life’s obstacles. We provide children and teens ages 2 to 17 with a variety of services such as individual, play, expressive, family and group therapy, as well as academic advocacy, psychoeducation, parent coaching and support and referrals.

Therapy can help with:

  • Social withdrawal and bullying
  • Sleep problems or nightmares
  • Frequent tantrums or defiance
  • Refusal to attend school
  • Suicidal statements or actions
  • Intentional self-harm
  • Aggression, violence and/or threatening behavior to others
  • Loss of a family member or pet
  • Relocation/adjustment issues
  • Significant changes in mood
  • Change in academic performance
  • Excessive worrying and anxiety

Free Support Groups

Teen Group

High School Age

Groups are held at various times throughout the year.

Teens discuss their new normal and engage in activities together.
Topics covered: increasing social connections, positive communication skills and self esteem, learning to manage conflict, navigating academic challenges and discussing family dynamics and conflict.

Children's Group

Upper Elementary

Groups are held at various times throughout the year.

Participants connect with peers while learning self-growth, self-care and social skills.

Middle School Group

Middle School Age

Groups are held at various times throughout the year.

Participants find support with other tweens while learning coping skills and making friends.
