As we prepare for the approaching inclement weather, stay informed and equipped with the resources needed. The Houston Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is the best and most reliable resource for comprehensive updates and guidance regarding approaching inclement weather.

Additionally, information about warming centers, including their locations and hours of operation, will be made available through HoustonOEM’s website. If you or anyone in your network requires assistance or transportation to a warming center, you may call 311 for support.

During freezing temperatures, remember to protect the four P's:

  • PEOPLE should dress warmly, in layers, to avoid hypothermia (abnormally low body temperature).
  • PETS should be brought indoors or provided with a warm place to sleep.
  • PIPES that run outside or under a house should be wrapped in pipe insulation to avoid cracks due to water freezing in them.
  • PLANTS may need to be covered or brought inside to avoid frost damage.
