Event Overview

Unpacking Aging and Disability with the National Task Group on Intellectual Disabilities and Dementia Practices (NTG)

While individuals with IDD generally enjoy good health, they are more prone to dementia, with over half diagnosed by age 60. Dr. Bishop has over fifty peer reviewed publications that she will synthesize into how caregivers and individuals with IDD can navigate and manage healthcare, health conditions, and other pertinent tools of assessment and care relative to IDD and aging.

Presented by: Dr. Kathleen M. Bishop

Dr. Bishop is a gerontologist specializing in aging with developmental disabilities. She consults for various organizations within the aging and intellectual disability networks, focusing on program and support planning. Her expertise includes environmental modifications, caregiving for adults with dementia and intellectual disabilities, and addressing issues faced by women with disabilities.

This monthly meeting is open to parents and caregivers who have a family member with a disability. It provides a forum to exchange information with one another, offer support, and learn about new resources.
