On a daily basis we are bombarded by expectations from various sources about what we should do, how we should behave and what defines success in life. As I was thinking about this lately I was reminded of a quote by John Lennon who said:

“When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life.
When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down “happy”.
They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.“

Whether or not the story happened exactly as he tells it, I love the sentiment of it. There are a multitude of ways to measure success in life but ultimately each of us need to decided what is the measure that is most important for us.

Ralph Waldo Emerson tells us that:

“The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be.”

As we start the week, it is a good time to remind ourselves what are the things that are most important to us so that we stay true to our beliefs, ideals and goals.

I hope that the week brings you a sense of purpose, accomplishment and movement towards the person you decide to become.

Take care,
